Sheriff’s FOC Civil Non Support Warrant Unit

The Friend of the Court (FOC) Civil Non-Support Unit is a unit of Court Services.  It is compromised of one Lieutenant, one Sergeant, and eight deputies.  Each deputy is assigned a caseload within a specific geographical area of the county.  The FOC civil non support unit is based in the Penobscot building, located at 645 Griswold.  The office is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, however the arrest teams vary their work hours based on need.  The Sheriff’s role is very specific--enforce court orders.  The Friend of the Court and or the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court civil division have the authority to issue bench warrants for failure to appear for show cause hearings and contempt of court warrants for failure to comply with court orders.  The Sheriff’s FOC civil non support unit affects arrests based upon those warrants.  This unit also assists in the arrest of warrant offenders by request from other out county and out state agencies.
