My name is Lawrence Hall. I am the Director of Training for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, where I hold the rank of Deputy Chief. My wife Suzanne is the Director of Administration for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. We have been married 33 years and have two children - son Joshua who is a senior at Michigan State and daughter Rachel who is completing her physician’s assistant curriculum at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
As the Director of Training for the WCSO, I am responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing a diverse training curriculum for the 1000+ members of the department. As part of my duties, I instruct Criminal Law for the Sheriff’s Police, Jailer’s Training, and Reserve Officer Academies. I am a graduate of both the Detroit Police and Oakland Police Academies, and serve as a part-time Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Madonna University.
Prior to being hired by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, I served as a police officer with the City of Southgate, Michigan for 29 years, retiring at the rank of Chief of Police. During my career with the City of Southgate I held every promotional position within the department and served in numerous specialized assignments, including: training coordinator, school liaison officer, drug awareness officer, neighborhood watch coordinator, patrol supervisor, fatal accident investigator, background investigations, certified motorcycle officer, traffic bureau commander, auxiliary police liaison, and field training officer. All told, I have over 35 years of law enforcement experience and 30+ years of teaching experience at the collegiate level. I volunteer a great deal of my time to community related activities, including having served as a baseball and fast pitch softball coach for over 20 years. I am an avid sports participant and fan.
My formal education includes: a Law Degree from Wayne State Law School (graduated Magna Cum Laude - gpa of 3.74); a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Wayne State University (graduated with High Honors - gpa 3.89); a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University (graduated with High Honors - gpa 3.98); a college preparatory High School Diploma from Schafer High School in Southgate, MI (graduated Class Valedictorian).
Daughter: Rachel Hall, age 24.
In December 2011, Rachel completed her Physician's Assistant (PA) program at the University of Toledo, Medical Center, where she received a Master of Science Degree in Biomedical Science, compiling a 3.9 Grade Point Average (gpa). Upon passing her national licensing exam in January 2012, Rachel accepted a position as a Physician's Assistant with the Emergency Physicians of Northwest Ohio, Inc. Prior to her graduate studies, Rachel received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lake Superior State University, Sault Sainte Marie, MI, graduating Magna Cum Laude on the Dean's List, and was an All-American Athlete as captain of her college fastpitch softball team. Prior to college, Rachel attended Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, MI where she was a member of the National Honor Society, and a 3-time All-State Award recipient in fastpitch softball. In her spare time Rachel instructs fastpitch softball hitting, and enjoys golf, hiking, and bicycling,

Joshua is a first year law student at George Washington Law School in Washington D.C. (ranked in the Top 20 Law Schools in America) whose goal is to become a courtroom litigator. He recently was accepted as a judicial intern beginningt he summer of 2012, with a U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan. Prior to law school Joshua received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Michigan State University, where he graduated With Honors on the Dean's List. Prior to college, he attended Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, MI, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, and played multiple varsity sports. In his spare time Joshua enjoys baseball, golf, amateur short-film making, and bicycling.
